Introduction
This web site is the web presence of the ICM research initiative based in the Motueka River catchment in Nelson, New Zealand.
It is a 9 year programme which commenced in July 2000, and whose goal is to conduct multi-disciplinary, multi-stakeholder research to provide information and knowledge that will improve the management of land, freshwater, and near-coastal environments in catchments with multiple, interacting, and potentially conflicting land uses.
A significant element of the programme is the innovative way that the research programme delivers its results to its stakeholders.
Research Approach
The key to knowledge delivery from our research is the shortened pathway from research to uptake and use. By using a range of different approaches we aim to get our knowledge products to stakeholders and research partners more rapidly than many traditional science-based efforts. The approaches are also aimed at presenting the information in a range of different ways to complement the many learning styles of our end users.
Research Results
The technical report published in 2003 summarises the present state of knowledge of the Motueka and Riwaka catchments, the various management issues, and research needs for integrated catchment management.
Integrated Catchment Management for the Motueka River Version 1.0 of the ICM for the Motueka River CD-Rom was launched at Ecofest in Nelson on 20 and 21 August 2005. This marks the next significant phase in our communication and knowledge delivery strategy for stakeholders and research partners in the ICM Motueka project. Version 2.0 is currently being updated and is due for release in 2009.
A publication database relevant to the Motueka River catchment and Tasman Bay has also been constructed as part of the information gathering phase and development of the knowledge base. It contains over 400 annotated references that describe what is in the reference, how important we believe the reference to be, and its relevance to the various issues being addressed by the project. The reference database is fully searchable and you enter in key words, authors, or other relevant search details to find what is held in the database. Note - this is different from but includes the publications produced as part of the ICM Motueka research programme.
This web site is the last strand in the knowledge delivery strategy for the ICM research programme and it is continuously updated as research results come to hand.
